How exactly is the treatment specialized?
The center has developed and refined a complete program that addresses all aspects of recovery for someone with an eating disorder. This includes treatment of depression, panic & anxiety disorders, recovery from sexual abuse, trauma issues, family problems, substance abuse, psychiatric & medical needs etc. Clinical professionals provide comprehensive treatment for every contributing factor in a woman’s illness.
Why was Center for Change chosen for Camilla’s treatment?
The short answer is that effective treatment centers are in limited supply and the severity of Camilla’s condition limited her options. Major factors that played a role were:
- Full Hospitalization in an eating disorder treatment center for Anorexia
(Doctors Orders found in “A Letter from My Doctor” on Camilla’s Blog)
- Proximity to her father’s residence in Utah
- Provision of treatment that was widely recognized as effective
- Willingness to treat Camilla despite her severe health condition
- A willingness to accept Camilla for treatment immediately
- Cost
Other treatment centers such as Remuda Ranch, and Magnolia Creek were also considered but did not meet the above criteria. Camilla’s September 25th blog post helps to impress the urgency of the situation that finally compelled her to accept inpatient treatment.
How expensive is Camilla’s treatment?
Camilla provides some specific details about expenses on her September 1st blog post as she shared the process of exploring her treatment options. To summarize four facilities were identified with a daily cost ranging from $500-$1600 per day depending on factors such as whether insurance would assist with treatment costs and the level of service. Insurance companies may cover some costs of eating disorder treatments but not residential treatment. Partial Hospitalization programs are inadequate to provide the level of care Camilla requires for recovery.
Camilla has been prescribed treatment for a period of 4 – 6 Months at minimum. The anticipated cost of treatment for a full recovery ranges between $108,000 & $150,000 at roughly $900 / day.
Why is treatment so expensive?
Camilla has tried, unsuccessfully, in the past to make a recovery using partial or outpatient care without success. Her condition has worsened and her doctor has prescribed extended inpatient care. Such care requires a team of a therapist, a dietician, a doctor, a psychiatrist and also 24 hour supervision.
